    If the racquet face is nearly vertical at contact, does it mean you necessarily contact the “back” of the ball, since the racquet is a flat plane and the ball is a sphere? It feels impossible to contact the top half of the ball, unless the racquet is severely closed. What I mean is, if the racquet is exactly vertical relative to the ground at contact, then the ball must necessarily be impacted at the exact equator behind the ball, regardless of swing path. Am I missing something?

      @@s2lai as your hitting the shot, the head of the racquet should begin to extend out toward the right slightly. With the rotation of your shoulders this gets the racquet toward the target. If you feel like you’re pushing it’s because your hands and the racquet head are moving together instead of racquet head passing the handle and using the leverage of the racquet.

      The arm and shoulder mechanics would still be the same! I haven’t worked with anyone specifically playing wheelchair tennis, so I’m not familiar with how the non-dominant arm works with balance and steering the chair while hitting. However, the looping of the hitting arm in a vertical loop would help give power.

    Hammer grip vs Pistol grip?

    • @HammerItTennis
      @HammerItTennis 4 місяці тому

      You want the grip to run more at an angle through the hand vs just through the fingers. The racquet should be able to make more of a straight line when extended through the forearm to the elbow vs holding it in a manner that makes a 90 degree angle at the hand with the forearm.

    Why would I need to change my replacement grip?

    • @HammerItTennis
      @HammerItTennis 4 місяці тому

      After a lot of use they begin to break down and you lose the cushion of the grip. Ultimately if it is used too much they tear up, although not as easily as an over grip.

    • @bryanjonathan1580
      @bryanjonathan1580 4 місяці тому

      @HammerItTennis I usually use my Babolat Pure Aero 23, and cushioning is great, but I'm trying and old Yonex R-27 with original grip and it feels very hard. Maybe I should change it then. Part of my thumb hurts.

    • @HammerItTennis
      @HammerItTennis 4 місяці тому

      @@bryanjonathan1580 absolutely I would change the grip! Changing the grip with a new grip should restore the cushion. Some players prefer that hard feeling and they’ll use a leather grip. The level of cushioning is up to you but if you prefer the cushion then replacing with a cushioning type grip should help out your thumb.

    I was curious about the tournagrips which side to use. However noticed you doing the Wilson grips wrong, should start the same way you do the tournament overgrip and the tapered end towards the throat of the racket.

    • @HammerItTennis
      @HammerItTennis 4 місяці тому

      If a grip comes precut with a taper that end is always meant to be the start end. Manufacturers don’t always cut the finish end because they do not know how long you are going to wrap (different lengths) so even if it’s already cut, you may cut it shorter. This is also why most precut tapered grips have a spot of adhesive to help the grip stay put at the start.

    Thank you for this very clear presentation. I have been thinking about spin a lot lately and have concluded the key is hitting the ball off the center of mass. I have concluded this is the primary cause of spin. I would cite as evidence that a baseball bat can create a lot of spin on a baseball and, in the case of baseball, both surfaces are round and there are no strings involved, super spin type or otherwise. However, I have just looked at some sites on physics and tennis that suggest that some spin is also generated by the fact that when the ball hits the racquet, the surface of the ball pushes the strings laterally and they then spring back against the surface of the ball and rotate it back the other way. Strings that grab the surface of the ball better (maybe due to friction?) and strings that snap back better will spin the ball more. So, the factors creating spin are these two, maybe more that I have yet to discover. I would think then that for fast paced balls at the baseline, a player would want to emphasize techniques that employ the off-center of mass factor. For short, slow balls, where more spin and less forward direction is needed, a player would want to emphasize the lateral snapping back of the strings factor. Would you agree? Hope this is useful to other players reading.
